January 23, 1984: Won WWF Championship from The Iron Sheik, New York, NY January 1, 1990: Was reigning WWF Champion coming into decade April 21, 2002: Won WWF Championship from Triple H, Kansas City, MO The eighties and nineties were a slam dunk for Hogan, with 'Hulkamania' ruling the land. Hogan held the title for over six years from 1984 to 1990, save for a fourteen-month stretch in 1988-89. Like Backlund, Hogan found second life with WWE, in his case as a beloved elder statesman. The pop Hogan received at WrestleMania X8 in Toronto was so awing that one more run as top dog was in order. The company quickly merchandised the hell out of the nostalgia well that was Hulkamania V2.
