6 Wrestling Finishers That Were Discovered By Accident

3. Powerbomb (Lou Thesz)

Vader, Sycho Sid, Kevin Owens, Diesel, The Undertaker, Batista and countless Indy workers over the years have used the Powerbomb as part of their repertoire. Often, the move is modified to include spinning, less rotation and pinning combinations at the end of it. None of that crossed the great Lou Thesz' mind when he wrestled Antonino Rocca.

Thesz was just trying to keep a hold of the Italian's body and stop him from falling on his back as he struggled to produce a picture-perfect Piledriver.

Sadly for Lou, Rocca failed to put his head in the right positioning for the move and so Thesz had to (as gently as he could) lay him down on the canvas. When Antonino slipped, a crude incarnation of the Powerbomb was created, and it'd make wrestling history.

Rocca landed flush on his spine with his legs in the air, and it must have sent the live crowd into raptures. They couldn't have seen anything of the sort at the time, or imagined it'd be part of the match.

Lou Thesz = the real 'Master Of The Powerbomb'. Sorry, Sid n' Kev.
