6 WWE Hell In A Cell Opening Matches - From Worst To Best

4. The Undertaker Vs. CM Punk (2009)

Yes, The Undertaker and CM Punk opened the very first Hell in a Cell special event way back in 2009. Punk was fresh off his heel turn and excellent summer feud with Jeff Hardy, and Taker had recently returned to emasculate the new champion. One awful Montreal Screwjob-esque match later, the two found themselves locked in the Cell. It was Taker's 9th time inside and Punk's 1st. The match had a great start and an equally hot ending, but it really suffered from a lack of heat-building in the middle. Taker just sort of dominates the entire thing, and whilst Punk does get a little bit of offence in (countering Old School and working Taker's leg a bit), there was no drama built whatsoever towards the finish. This was a World Heavyweight Championship match no less. Still, it is The Undertaker against CM Punk, so I can't say too many negative things about it. Plus the feud gave us the famous Smackdown scene where Undertaker kidnapped Teddy Long in a limo. Beautiful memories.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
