6 WWE Records That Were Needlessly Broken

2. Longest Divas Championship Reign - Nikki Bella

AJ Lee was a true square peg in a round hole, a professional wrestler working in a division surrounded by fitness models and swimwear and tasked with bringing up the standards of all around her. The Black Widow was rewarded with a record-breaking reign as Divas Champion, a 295-day run that started with victory over Kaitlyn and ended with defeat to Paige.

Records are made to be broken, but you would have gotten long odds on Nikki Bella being the women to hold the butterfly belt longer than the woman who arguably kickstarted the women's revolution. When Nikki won the title from AJ at Survivor Series 2014, many assumed a decent run for Nikki but certainly nothing passing six months.

301 days later, Nikki Bella's run came to an end. Much like The New Day record above the strap run was dragged out towards the end, as the inevitability of a record being broken overshadowed the impressive reign. AJ Lee was paying the price for the comments and departure of her husband CM Punk, an exceptionally petty move by a company who have consistently shown that they aren't afraid of plumbing new petty depths.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
