1. Gorilla Monsoon Once Called A Show Almost Blind
It's no accident that this list is book-ended with stories about the late-great Gorilla Monsoon. One of the most instantly-recognisable voices in WWE history, the man forged an incredible partnership with someone who would become a real-life pal, Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan. The pair were a riot together, and often didn't have to plan out any of their interaction, because it came naturally. Before throat cancer took his voice from him, Heenan was popular on the shoot interview circuit after WCW went down the tubes. Always keen to talk about his departed friend, Bobby shared a story about Monsoon from the old WWF days. Gorilla was short-sighted, which meant he had to wear glasses when calling the action, even when watching on the monitor at ringside. On one occasion, he lost his glasses, which meant he'd have to stumble through the broadcast almost blind. Showing a true level of aptitude for the task, Gorilla managed to get through the show. Of course, Bobby Heenan aided him, crying out about things that were happening and almost taking over for his visually-impaired colleague. The show in question was apparently the 1993 Royal Rumble, one of the last the pair would work alongside one another. What other crazy wrestling announcer stories do you know?
