The Legacy group that Randy Orton led in late 2008, all of 2009 and into 2010 was a great idea in theory. They paired up a bunch of guys that were second or third generation wrestlers that were carrying on their family legacies. Orton was the main event leader with Ted Dibiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes as the two guys at his side. The group also had Manu and Sim Snuka, but they weren't a part of it for that long. If you were reading online during those days then you know the plan all along was to turn Dibiase into the breakout star of the group. Orton would stay in the heel role he was in since 2005 while Rhodes would also remain a heel. Instead, somewhere along the way they decided to change it up with Orton as the guy that turned. A lot of it had to do with the fans. Leading up to their three way match at WrestleMania 26 in 2010, Orton was getting a lot of cheers and by the time the match was over, it was clear that Orton was a babyface. It's not a role that Orton ever really embraced, but fans were so used to his moves that they supported him immediately. It took a while to get used to. This was also the time in his career when he was having better matches too, so in that sense it was good for him. Looking back on things, if Dibiase went face it probably would have been a mistake. It's unlikely that he would have taken off. Orton became a huge babyface until his heel turn in the summer of 2013.
