7 Babyface Wrestling Tag Teams Which Flopped As Heels

Would The New Day have become the longest-running WWE Tag-Team Champions in history had they flogged a dead horse and used racism as their motivation? Probably not, so it's for the best that WWE moved away from an obnoxious gospel gimmick or 'black power' vision for the trio. Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E deserved better than crude use of their skin colour anyway.

One thing that's often forgotten is that New Day were supposed to start as babyfaces. Fans booed the hell out of them though, which necessitated a heel turn. That villainous run didn't work either, because suddenly the try-hard techniques of all concerned captivated fan imagination.

Obnoxiously dancing, playing trombones, and inviting fans to clap along grated at first, but people eventually started to come round to New Day and accept them. It was hard not to when the team were consistently one of the most charming acts on WWE television throughout 2015.

As militant heels who threatened to veer into an unnecessary use of race to gain attention, The New Day wouldn't have worked. By allowing the group to show their natural charisma and presence though, WWE hit pay dirt.
