The "Rated R" version of the WWE Title was Edge's way of taking a shot at John Cena. They were in a bitter feud in 2006 where they each had title reigns and Edge proved to be a huge thorn in Cena's side. Since Cena had the WWE Title as a spinner piece of hardware, Edge decided to do the same thing. Edge defeated John Cena at SummerSlam 2006 (thanks to Lita's help) and the next night on Raw he asked Lita to toss Cena's WWE Title into the water. It was reminiscent to a moment between The Rock and Steve Austin several years earlier (more on that later). After Lita tossed the title into the water, Edge was in the ring as a new WWE Title emerged. It said "Rated R Superstar" on it, which was Edge's nickname. The Rated R version of the WWE Title didn't last that long since Cena won the title back at the Unforgiven 2006 PPV in an awesome TLC match, but it was nice to see somebody else with their version of the WWE Title. It was a good heel move on Edge's part.
