If you grew up a wrestling fan in the late 1980s or early 1990s then you know all about the Million Dollar Championship that was custom made for Ted Dibiase. The reason they created the title was because Dibiase was unable to win the WWE Title and he couldn't buy it either, so he decided to make his own. There were vignettes shown of Dibiase talking to a jeweler about making the title. The title wasn't defended often like a regular title very much. It was more of a prop for Dibiase to use to flaunt in the face of the fans and his opponents. They said it cost $1 million to make it, but reportedly the real price was about $125,000. That's still a very expensive title. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HbiXEnFJYw It's a unique title because it had $ signs all around it and it was unlike anything we had ever seen before. When we were kids it was the coolest thing ever. The problem with it was they could really only have it around Dibiase. Once he retired there wasn't much use for it. The title was held by Dibiase, Virgil, Steve Austin when Dibiase managed him briefly in 1996 and Ted Dibiase Jr. when WWE tried to give him a gimmick like his father that just didn't work. It's unlikely that WWE would ever create something like the Million Dollar Title again. It fit Dibiase's character perfectly, but there's no need to do something like that again.
