The main reason WWE created a title for Austin was because he was the top guy in the company and anything that was attached to his name was going to sell. His merchandise was doing record numbers in the late 1990s so it made sense that they would create a title just for him. It probably sold really well too. They did a great job with the title because it looks cool. Some of the others are cheesy, but this one looks like something you want to carry around and be proud of. That's also because it belongs to Austin, who had a special aura about him as one of the most popular wrestlers of all time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKhRVuX0Bvc The most famous moment for the Smoking Skull Title was in 1999 when The Rock brawled with Austin on a bridge and then knocked him into the water after an attack. It was a cheesy scene, but that's what they were going for. Rock also tossed Austin's Title into the water. Austin has mentioned many times that he helped design every piece of Stone Cold merchandise. He wanted to make sure that it was something he liked. The Smoking Skull title was likely designed thanks to the ideas of Austin.
