7 Best Promos In Wrestling Today
5. Kevin Owens
Everyone’s favourite backstabbing brawler/zoo enthusiast sure knows how to pop a crowd. Often hilarious, Owens has also established himself as a cynical, take no prisoners menace on the microphone. Many lauded the comedic value of his promo work with friend turned enemy Chris Jericho a couple of years ago. The same crowds booed him out of the building for his treatment of Sami Zayn in NXT and of Daniel Bryan when he was on his way back to the ring last year.
Owens has proven he can go from a laugh a minute to an unsettling psychopath in the blink of an eye when the script calls for it. Of late Owens has worked somewhere between heel and face. Coming off his sudden and unexpectedly personal rivalry with Kofi Kingston, Owens has transformed into an anti-establishment crusader. Despite homaging Stone Cold with the stunner, Owens’ violent everyman persona and shameless promo style is more reminiscent of CM Punk. Similar to Punk, Owens is a popular heel, a character seemingly devoid of any conventionally likeable traits and yet adored by many vocal fans for the entertainment value he provides.
