7 Best WWE Tag Team Rivalries Of The Past Decade
3. The Shield Vs. The Wyatt Family
These two factions were both at their peak when they clashed in early 2014.
They had each been running roughshod over RAW without crossing paths. Bray was as-yet-undamaged by the poor booking that would later plague him, and was fresh off a singles victory over Daniel Bryan at The 2014 Royal Rumble, where Roman Reigns’ mega push continued as he broke Kane’s record for most eliminations in a single rumble with 12.
The inevitable warfare was highly anticipated, and fans got what they wanted when a three-on-three match was booked for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, after The Wyatt Family had cost The Shield the chance to compete for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE got the build for this clash of the titans spot on, holding hostilities back until the match itself, and building tension with a couple of teasing staredowns on the preceding RAWs.
When they eventually collided, it was 22 minutes of breathless action, a show stealer if ever there was one, as all six men left everything they had in the ring. Their rematch on RAW, also won by the Wyatts, was just as good. This feud made stars out of at least four people (that WWE have not capitalised fully on them all is their own fault), and it has taken until now to make tag team wrestling feel as big as it felt during this programme.
