7 Big Questions Raised By GFW's Latest Financial Meltdown
4. Is The Promotion Set For ANOTHER Rebranding?
GFW has already undergone two major rebrandings during Anthem's ownership. The first took place on March 2nd, when on-air authority figure Bruce Prichard announced that TNA was "dead," and the promotion became Impact Wrestling. Global Force's takeover was then announced the following month, and the company was repackaged into its current form at July 2nd's Slammiversary XV pay-per-view.
There's now a strong possibility that GFW could be set to undergo its third major rebranding in a year. As we've previously reported, the GFW/Impact merger was "nowhere near as completed" as was originally suggested. Jeff Jarrett seemingly still owns all trademarks relating to Global Force Wrestling, and if he doesn't return, there's a chance he'll take them with him.
This would be a major PR blunder on Anthem's behalf. If Jarrett does leave, they'll have only succeeded in raising GFW's name value and international profile, and will be faced with the prospect of coming up with an entirely new name for the promotion, or reverting to 'Impact,' which has long been considered a poisoned brand. Not a good look for a company that has spent nine months trying to distance themselves from the promotion's disastrous past.
