7 Big Questions Raised By GFW's Latest Financial Meltdown
2. Will WWE Swoop In?
If Anthem are looking for a way out of the business and Global Force Wrestling is indeed up for sale, then WWE are the most likely suitors. There was heavy speculation that Vince McMahon was set to buy Dixie Carter out prior to Anthem's intervention last autumn, and while WWE ultimately decided against the move, they may take advantage of the company's seemingly precarious position this time.
This would mean the end of GFW as a wrestling promotion. It's assumed that McMahon has no interest in keeping the company going, and is only attracted by the extensive tape library, which includes hours of footage featuring top WWE stars like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Kurt Angle. They may retain the contracts of some of GFW's biggest performers, but WWE's roster is bloated enough as it is, and many may find themselves cast adrift.
It'd also mean acquiring the rights to the Broken Universe, which would allow Matt and Jeff Hardy to perform the gimmick on WWE television.
Sports Illustrated also mentioned Ring Of Honor or former TNA investor Billy Corgan as potential suitors, though neither would be able to compete with WWE's financial might.
