7 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Elimination Chamber 2019
4. Refusal To Make Ruby Riott A Credible Threat
You'd be hard pressed to find a single person who thought Ruby Riott was actually going to take the Raw Women's Championship from Ronda Rousey. The sometimes-vicious, often-forgettable leader of the Riott Squad had done little to nothing of importance before she had been announced as the No.1 Contender, really solidifying that she was nothing more than a transitional opponent for the champion. However, it was up to the creative team to make us believe that she could do the impossible.
You could argue that WWE was right to prioritise their money match between Ronda and Becky Lynch and/or Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania, and you'd be right. What they were wrong in doing was completely burying Riott's chances before and during the match.
Riott makes for a great heel and, when allowed to be, she can be a dominant force in the ring, so the creative team could have at least subverted our expectations a little by allowing her to put on a strong performance at Elimination Chamber (much like Kofi Kingston did in the WWE Championship match) before Ronda fought back harder than ever and proved why she's a great champion. Unfortunately, they merely took things to a whole new level of laziness by having the Champion squash her in under two minutes, highlighting that they never cared about this match.
As a result, this was nothing more than a waste of screen time that could have been given to something more deserving (like the SmackDown Women's Championship) instead.
