7 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE WrestleMania 35

6. Too Many Short Matches

WrestleMania has had its fair-share of short matches. Given the scale of the event, it makes sense that WWE would opt to create record-breaking moments, so those blink-and-you'll-miss-it encounters are a forgivable consequence. Unfortunately, this year's WrestleMania went overboard with the brief contests and, for some reason, not a single one of them was designed to be a record-breaker.

From a creative standpoint, the short bouts actually worked. The brief Universal Championship match between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar made sense (given Lesnar's history with squashes) while the U.S. Championship match protected the injured Rey Mysterio and made Samoa Joe look strong in the process. Furthermore, nobody wanted to see long drawn-out clashes from Angle and Corbin or Bálor and Lashley, so it was also smart-thinking to end those quickly.

Fans' approval of the short matches does highlight the deeper problem with WWE. Why were we glad that the Intercontinental Championship match was quickly dealt with? Why was it a blessing that we didn't have to watch Baron Corbin wrestle a full match?

The event had more than a few matches that nobody really wanted to see and, as a result, the creative team were forced to produce multiple quick finishes. It cheapened what was supposed to be WWE's season finale and resulted in a lot of the evening feeling predictable and repetitive.
