7 Classic Wrestling Storylines WWE Should Recycle

6. Freebirds Vs. Von Erichs – "Pin Him."

The World Class Championship Wrestling territory wasn't built solely around the rivalry between the Fabulous Freebirds and the Von Erichs - but it almost was.

The Freebirds were loud, brash, and crude, while the Von Erichs were clean-cut, good looking, and respectful heartthrobs. The story practically wrote itself, and WCCW went back to it so many times it almost became self-parody.

During World Class' big Christmas show of 1982, Michael "P.S." Hayes was assigned as a guest referee for the NWA World Title cage match between Ric Flair and Kerry Von Erich. Hayes got involved in the match, knocking Flair down and suggesting Von Erich make the cover to win the title. When Kerry refused, a frustrated Hayes started to walk out of the cage. When Von Erich stopped him to try to reason with him, Flair hit Kerry with a knee to the back (jump to the 28:50 mark of the video), knocking Hayes to the floor. Freebird enforcer Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy then slammed the cage door in Von Erich's head.

It's long since been time to turn AJ Styles babyface again, so a similar angle would be an ideal way to bring Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to SmackDown and have them resume their quest to #beatupjohncena.

Since Styles has shown babyface tendencies by beating Cena clean at SummerSlam and shaking his hand recently on SmackDown, a slow face turn could come to pass by having Gallows & Anderson help Styles by laying Cena out during a WWE Title match and offering Styles the pin. When Styles refuses, his former friends could turn on The Phenomenal One for his lack of gratitude, costing him the championship and setting Styles up as the top full-time babyface on SmackDown.
