7 Cool Things About WWE Survivor Series 1990 (Not Named The Undertaker)

6. The Warriors

Another cool part of the 1990 Survivor Series was the pairing of the WWF Champion Ultimate Warrior with Intercontinental Champion the Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich, and the Legion of Doom, Hawk & Animal. The team name of The Warriors was an appropriate title as all four of these men had previously been referred to as various types of warriors throughout their wrestling career. The Texas Tornado was the nickname given to Kerry Von Erich by the WWF, but he had previously been called the Modern Day Warrior during his days in WCCW. Hawk and Animal were collectively known as the Legion of Doom during their first run in the WWF that lasted from 1990 through 1992, however, they were the once and future Road Warriors. The Legion of Doom wasn't a WWF creation, but it was the name Vince McMahon went with for his new team instead of the Road Warriors. Vince McMahon has always been in favor of re-naming individuals upon their arrival in his company. From a marketing standpoint, he wants to make each of his performers "his own" and often times he will ignore the wrestlers' previous personas. Nowadays, McMahon will rename almost everyone that comes through his territory, but in 1990 this wasn't seen as the requirement it would become in the future. In the case of Kerry and the Road Warriors, he kept their core character names but branded them with monikers that would eventually come to be associated with their time in the WWF. McMahon also did not want his audience confused over the "true" warrior of the WWF, and that was his reigning champion, the Ultimate Warrior. This made the teaming of The Warriors at the 1990 Survivor Series that much cooler considering it was a subtle nod to the characters' shared nickname.
