7 Crazy WWE Attitude Gimmicks That Almost Happened
6. Christian As 'The Lock'
This one relies on serious creative license when it comes to establishing exactly when Attitude ended, but it's too good to omit.
In 2003 (after the 'Ruthless Aggression' McMahon-speak but before WWE truly moved away from Attitude presentation), Edge's long-time partner Christian cut his hair, started wearing some sunnies and referred to himself in third person. In other words, he became some crude spin off of The Rock, only without the Samoan heritage or already-burgeoning Hollywood film career. Still, it was a start; at least it was, before it was cancelled.
According to Christian on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness, he was very nearly rethought as 'The Lock'. He'd dress up real nice, raise his eyebrow on command and generally riff on Dwayne Johnson's material until fans wanted to barf at parody so foul it'd give Jason Sensation nightmares. Sadly, it wasn't meant to be for 'Captain Charisma'.
Instead of playing Rocky-lite, Christian settled into a midcard heel role and eventually became so fed up of being overlooked that he bolted for TNA and their World Title mix. 'The Lock' was doomed to deletion from some hopeful writer's hard drive.
