WWE Pay Per Views these days seem to fall into one of three distinct categories. You have the recognised big four - WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and Survivor Series. You have the standard generically named PPVs such as Fastlane and Battleground, descendants of the Attitude Era's Judgement Day, Fully Loaded, No Mercy, and so on. Finally, you have an uninspiring new trend - stipulation specific shows. Although cool in theory, PPVs such as TLC, Extreme Rules and Hell In A Cell result in watered-down versions of matches previously accepted as blood-feud blowoffs. It's not the worst schedule in the world, but certainly one in need of improvement. Luckily, the WWE has a long history of now-defunct Pay Per View concepts which could potentially thrive in the current environment. From overseas specials to legendary tournaments, many old beloved PPVs would surely be an improvement on quite a few of today's uninspiring cookie-cutter shows. While nobody in their right mind would suggest throwing away the Royal Rumble or Survivor Series (although many have feared Vince eventually growing tired of the latter), few would complain if Night Of Champions or Payback was replaced by a recognised favourite.
