King of the Ring aired recently as a WWE Network exclusive show, an interesting and praised idea. However, the concept of King of the Ring is surely too compelling and historically-rich to confine to the Network. If ever a PPV was more than deserving of a resurrection, the WWE's iconically simple tournament certainly fits the bill. The main issue here is that King of the Ring was often treated as a throwaway midcard sideshow, rather than the prestigious launchpad it once was. Proper booking would be essential to the PPV's success, something for which the promotion could look to NJPW for inspiration. Their annual G1 Climax tournament (one of many yearly tournaments) is always organised with intertwining storylines and consistent match quality as priorities.
