But despite the average run with the belt being less than a single week, there remain four superstars capable of boasting average reigns of more than one month. That quartet includes The Big Boss Man, Road Dogg, The Undertaker and Rob Van Dam. Given that the Boss Man and the D-O double-G were in possession of the belt prior to that pesky 24/7 rule, their figures are perhaps a little less impressive. And while the Deadmans 58 days as champion came from just one reign, that makes RVD the only man with multiple reigns during the 24/7 era lasting an average of more than a month. And given the nature of the Hardcore Championship, thats an admirable record indeed. His four title runs lasted a cumulative 134 days, giving him an average of just over 33 days per reign. But considering his final reign saw the belt merged with his Intercontinental title, in essence his 134 days covered came from just three title wins, improving his average even further. Add to that list of credentials the fact that much of his time with the belt came during the ever-changing days of the Invasion storyline, and its arguable that Rob Van Dam was in fact the greatest Hardcore Champion of all time.
