7 Famous WWE Gimmicks Originally Intended For Other Superstars

1. 'The Game' - Owen Hart

WWE

Triple H has stated in several interviews that "The Game" nickname that he would adopt months after Owen Hart's death was originally intended for Owen. Triple H would used the nickname himself in honour of Owen.

Disgruntled with the more raunchy approach the industry was leaning towards, Hart wanted out of the WWE in the months leading up to his tragic death. To seemingly appease his run as the Blue Blazer, WWE offered Owen the future gimmick that took Triple H from a solid mid-card performer to the very top of the business. Sadly, he never got chance to run with the gimmick as he died whilst playing the Blue Blazer character in May 1999.

It goes without saying that Owen would have suited the role of The Game; he had the in-ring skills and charisma to do it justice. At the time, his mic skills far surpassed those of Triple H. Some say Owen's still do now after the last 15 years of boring 20 minute HHH monologues.

What is more interesting about this however is the potential for the wrestling world to be very different than it is today. If Hart was alive to take the nickname on, would Triple H have gotten as big a push as he did that led to the angle with Stephanie McMahon? The start of their relationship happened as a result of them working together during the McMahon-Helmsley era. Would Triple H ever reach the main event without The Game tag behind him in any case? If Hunter and Steph didn't get together, who would be the heir to Vince McMahon's WWE throne?
