Together, The Vaudevillains were a unique tag team act in NXT that charmed fans by being a jokey look back at traditional strong men. Once Simon Gotch left and the team split up in April last year, we feared the worst for Aiden English. What could the pasty beanpole do without his light-hearted gimmick?

Create another one, that's what.

Now, English was hardly going to bother Ed Sheeran in the charts with his whimsical tunes, but he was there to irritate fans by taking too long to get through segments. Somehow, it worked, and an unlikely team with Rusev has created one of those weirdly curious odd couple tag teams. They're better than Jason Jordan and Seth Rollins, if nothing else.

The singing gimmick is one English used in NXT before teaming with Gotch. Whether it was his idea or the writers, someone had the foresight to realise he required something short-term he was also happy playing. That comfort and those comedic 'Rusev Dayyyyy' songs have prolonged a WWE career which seemed doomed.
