7 Gimmick Changes WWE Tried In 2017
5. Goldust
Newer fans probably cringed at promos laced with film references, wondering why a bumbling babyface was suddenly acting all serious, but there was potential in pressing the reset button on Goldust in 2017. No really, there was. Going retro was clearly something Goldie was passionate about, and it'd rid him of R-Truth.
The 'Golden Truth' team had petered out, so Goldust needed something new anyway. In place of freshness, WWE went old-school and had him proclaim that the " Golden Age was back" after turning on Truth and turning heel for the first time in years. Then, just like that, WWE's writing team forgot what they'd done.
On numerous house shows since turing heel, Goldust has reverted to his goofy babyface gimmick. This has rendered his change meaningless. Making things worse, WWE have flip-flopped between his fan-friendly ways and the more sinister character older fans will remember when they felt like it.
