7 Great Talkers WWE Didn't Let Talk
4. Mankind
Much like many of the other monster characters of the mid-90s, Mick Foley's Mankind horror relied on a manager to do the talking for him. Again, it was Paul Bearer who'd screech about all the terrible things Mankind wanted to do. Sometimes, Foley would end the promo by squealing like a pig.
That was the extent of his chatter.
The original Mankind gimmick didn't do much talking at all, and that was by design. Over time, Vince McMahon and his writers would come to appreciate the mind behind the character and give Foley more material to work with. It was an iconic sit down interview with Jim Ross in 1997 that changed opinions on Mick's promo abilities.
Through words, Foley was able to build a bond with the audience and let them see his hopes and dreams. This was true whether he was himself, Mankind, Dude Love or Cactus Jack. At first however, Mick didn't really get to cut promos.
