7 Great Talkers WWE Didn't Let Talk
1. Steve Austin
He's the most successful box office smash in WWE history, is responsible for one of the most long-lasting catchphrases ever and runs one of the highest-rated podcasts around, but Steve Austin wasn't always much of a talker. When he debuted in 1995, he was 'The Ringmaster', a boots n' trunks wrestler with as much pizzazz as a five-minute headlock.
It wasn't through choice.
Austin was given Ted DiBiase as his manager when he signed because Vince McMahon wasn't sure he had the magnetism that'd make him a good promo. The guy who'd go on to bank roll the Attitude era with phrases like, "Gimme' a hell yeah", "That's the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so", and "Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass" had to stand there as DiBiase did the talking.
His King Of The Ring 1996 victory speech changed internal opinion that Austin was little more than a functional wrassler who could get a good match out of anybody. He was a star in his own right, and proved it that night.
