7 Horrible Truths About WWE's Future

1. It'll Never Be Challenged Again

WCW was one of the best things to ever happen to the WWE. The sudden rise of real competition in the 1990s roused the (then) Federation from its post-Hogan slumber and sparked the most exciting period in wrestling history. Without the urgent need to improve and evolve, in order to emerge the winners of the Monday Night Wars, there's no telling where the company would have ended up by the end of the 20th century. The same applies today. Without any meaningful competition for well over a decade now, the WWE's monopoly on the wrestling world threatens to suffocate it from the inside. Bizarrely, the best thing the promotion can hope for is for TNA (or an entirely new competitor) to catch fire and join them at the top of the industry. Such inter-promotional war could be the catalyst for wrestling's next big boom period, and would certainly force the company to adapt and survive. Unfortunately, this currently doesn't look to be the case. TNA are floundering, having only narrowly survived destruction at the end of 2014, while beloved indie promotions such as ROH, PWG and Chikara are simply too small-time to make an impression. NJPW is arguably their biggest competition at the moment, but they seem to exist in their own separate spheres and look unlikely to influence one another. A very real fear exists among fans that the WWE will never have any need to improve again, and will simply continue to stagnate until interest in the business eventually dies away.
