7 Horrific Injuries Wrestlers Suffered Outside The Ring
6. Harley Race's Broken Bones
Harley Race is one of the toughest men to ever pull on a pair of wrestling boots. The grizzled veteran earned his reputation as a hard man, and he did so by working an intense, rugged and physical style. He may have survived all that in-ring abuse during a lengthy 30-plus year career, but due to a car accident in the '60s, it almost never even started.
The tragic crash would rob Race of his first wife, Vivian. Sadly, she was also pregnant when she died, an unimaginable loss for Harley. Making matters worse, Race was dealing with physical pain of his own; his leg was broken in the smash, and doctors believed he'd have to have it amputated.
It didn't come to that, but Race still had to pick up the pieces of his shattered personal life. Years later, he'd be involved in another crash (this time on his boat) in 1990. After being flung from the vessel, the legendary wrestler broke his nose and almost bit his own tongue in half.
