7 Huge Mistakes WWE Made With Chris Jericho's Debut Year
2. Winning And Then Being Stripped Of WWE Title By Triple H Hurt Him
It was one of the best Raw moments ever when Chris Jericho took on WWE Champion Triple H on the April 17, 2000 episode of Raw. He convinced Hunter to give him a title shot and Jericho took advantage of the situation to become the WWE Champ. Or so we thought. It turns out that referee Earl Hebner was having issues with Triple H, so he did a fast count after Jericho connected on his Lionsault for the pin. They really didn't do a good enough job of following up on the angle. Jericho ended up facing Triple H in a great Last Man Standing Match that July when Hunter wasn't the WWE Champ, but it wasn't enough of a payoff considering Hunter won that match. As the face in the feud, Jericho should have been able to prove he was better than Hunter. Instead, he kept losing to him repeatedly. That's actually something that lasted throughout both of their careers. Jericho lost to Triple H a lot. One has to wonder if it was a personal thing with Hunter because he really didn't put Jericho over when he should have, especially in 2000 when it would have really helped Jericho come across like a bigger deal. A lot of people like to say Triple H buried other wrestlers in his career. It's fair to say that Jericho was definitely buried by him in 2000, at least a little bit.
