7 Huge Returns WWE Fans Most Want In 2017
Who will come back to the big leagues?
When it comes to returns in WWE, 2016 was a huge year. Yes, WrestleMania may have ultimately turned out disappointing, but the show was a financial success based on the return of Shane McMahon. His shocking comeback after six years out of WWE - and his subsequent feud with The Undertaker - captured fans' imaginations and led to a full-time comeback for the Smackdown Commissioner.
Later in the year - and spurred on by the buzz generated in the promotion of the WWE 2K17 video game - the company saw another unexpected return when Goldberg came back after 12 years out of the sport. The former World Heavyweight Champion made a Raw appearance that spiked ratings, then blazed into the Survivor Series and scored a crushing victory over Brock Lesnar.
With those stars having returned - as well as the comebacks of Curt Hawkins, Jinder Mahal, The Spirit Squad, and Brian Kendrick - 2016 saw plenty of unexpected appearances from the stars of years past. With 2017 on the horizon, there's no question that fans are looking at more major returns from stars of the past - but who do they really want to see come back to WWE?
Here are the seven huge returns fans most want in 2017:
7. Johnny Mundo
For many years, John Morrison was considered one of the most underrated wrestlers in WWE. Though he dominated the tag team ranks with Joey Mercury and The Miz, then ranked up a few runs with the Intercontinental Title, he never became a main eventer the way some people expected. He left WWE of his own volition in 2011, and has since made his biggest mark competing for Lucha Underground as Johnny Mundo.
Mundo's contractual status with Lucha Underground raises some questions. According to LU contracts, stars can't compete for other promotions with TV until the episodes they've filmed have all aired. With season three of Lucha Underground scheduled to finish up in 2017, that could potentially pave the way for a return to WWE. Of course, if Lucha Underground is greenlit for a fourth season and Mundo is locked in, he won't be going anywhere.
All of that, of course, is also contingent on whether or not he even wants to come back to WWE, but one thing is for certain - the fans would be glad to have him.
