7 Incredibly Heated UFC Press Conferences
6. UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference
When it comes to trading insults, you usually don't include the other person's mother as part of the offence. Right?
In preparation for the promotion's 2017 summer events, this presser was supposed to get fight fans prepped for the upcoming season. As expected, Kevin Lee was asked about his love for the media, whether or not he was trying to mimic the antics of UFC megastar Conor McGregor, and what his general thoughts were on Michael Chiesa, his opponent at UFC Fight Night 112. For the most part, it started off rather cordial, with Lee acknowledging Chiesa's nice demeanour, in comparison to other lightweights who he believed were all bark and no bite.
Things quickly deteriorated from there, unfortunately. Chiesa started by throwing a verbal jab at Lee's appearance, with Lee returning fire by saying he's not relevant, and that he will carry him through the upcoming card. Then, Lee said Chiesa's mother bought tickets to see her son fight. That was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, with Chiesa lunging towards Lee, only for security to break the two apart before sending them on their way out.
Their eventual bout ended with Lee winning via an RNC in the first round. Although their paths have mostly diverged since, their shared animosity for one another can definitely be the basis for another bout. Run it back, perhaps at Welterweight?
