7 Major All-Women Wrestling Events Before WWE Evolution

5. TNA Knockouts Knockdown

Though the name of TNA's Knockouts division, whilst not wanting for drollery, was only marginally less denigrating than WWE's ignoble 'Divas', in 2013 the gulf in actual in-ring quality would have happily accommodated Siberia with room to spare.

As part of the Tennessee outfit's series of pre-recorded themed events known as One Night Only (none of which aired from Birmingham), the ahead-of-its-time female division were given the chance to prove they were more than the promotion's puerile name suggested. Fittingly, it was their bandiera Gail Kim, having dumped WWE years earlier due to the sorry state of women's wrestling in Stamford, who ended the night on top, besting eight opponents to proclaim herself 'Queen of the Knockouts'.

Impact are yet to repeat the event, but WWE stealing their initiative might just urge them to give the title a dusting down.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
