7 Match Star Ratings For WWE TLC 2020

1. Randy Orton Vs. The Fiend - Firefly Inferno Match

Sasha Banks Carmella
WWE

At the onset of the match, the flames were conspicuous by their absence.

Then, after some hammy acting and halfway reasonable action (in that there was nary a chinlock in sight), The Fiend did the Kane pose and set the ThunderDome ablaze. As so often happens with all things Bray Wyatt, a gigantic plot hole opened up in Tropicana Field.

"Let me in!" growled the abstract notion of bullsh*t.

If Bray Wyatt has the power of pyrokinesis, why didn't he simply cut out the middle man and set Orton on fire, and save himself the rather silly bother of being burnt to a crisp and, one is left to presume, murdered?

Is this ability limited to certain materials, i.e. instruments carefully placed around ringside to create a not uncool spectacle?

The answers to all of the above are: it's all fake, and WWE can't even do heightened dumb fun without asking probing questions of its multifariously stupid creative process.

Elements of the Firefly Inferno did tap into the outsize spectacle, and there was a certain inexplicable drama to this nonsense, though if Orton was subdued long enough to sit in a chair that he was placed on ablaze, why didn't The Fiend - and again, the stakes were rather high, he died - set f*cking Randy Orton on f*cking fire?

Randy Orton hit The Fiend with the RKO when The Fiend was on fire. You'd have to be the worst kind of pro wrestling snob not to admire the risk taken to arrive at a pretty cool visual.

Then The Fiend died after he was set on fire. One day, a new mutant strain of the supernatural Wyatt character will emerge. Or, immolation will get no-sold, just like all of the other 2020 WWE murders.

Nothing means anything. But, since fire is undeniably a bit awesome...

Star Rating: ★★¼ (for the fire)
