After a rocky final few months of 2016, the NXT women's division is up and running once more. Asuka is still the dominant force in the division, but the 'Empress of Tomorrow' now has a number of challengers snapping at her heels - a fairly apt way of describing the tenacity of the two women who should open the show in Chicago.

Despite their superficial differences, Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross are strikingly similar competitors. Both women have worked their way up to WWE through the independent scene, but their characters on NXT TV are opposite sides of the angsty coin. Ruby Riot is the tenacious babyface, never giving up and fighting with honour. Nikki Cross? Well, she's insane.

The two did battle in the eight person tag match that opened NXT TakeOver: Orlando, but there will almost certainly be more battles between them in the near future. Cross and Riot are more than capable of putting on a fast-paced and hard-hitting match to open the show in Chicago.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
