7 Matches That Must Happen At NXT TakeOver: Chicago

1. NXT Championship - Bobby Roode Vs. Drew McIntyre

Whilst some individuals may balk at the idea of Drew McIntyre walking straight into an NXT Championship shot, the reality is that the big Scot is the perfect man to step up to challenge Bobby Roode. NXT has a number of potential challengers but none in the immediate position to challenge - Drew McIntyre is fresh and credible. He needs to be thrown into the deep end.

NXT's main event scene is about to move forward without Shinsuke Nakamura for the first time in a year, and the arrival of Drew McIntyre is a major shot in the arm for the developmental brand. It is unlikely that 'The Chosen One' would win the title here, but the plan must be to build to a major championship match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn - McIntyre coming up just short is the first step on the road to that night.

Alternatively you could put Kassius Ohno or Roderick Strong in this same position, but building those two men up outside of the title picture is more beneficial to NXT. Drew McIntyre needs to be treated as a major star upon arrival, and what better way than to position him immediately as the number one babyface?

The NXT TakeOver: Chicago card will begin to take shape over the coming weeks. Seven weeks stand between now and what will be a hot night in the Windy City - what does NXT have planned for the event?
