1. Triple H: "Pushing Guys Is Complicated"

Triple H attempted to explain Jinder Mahal's sudden push in a For The Win feature this week, in which he also explained how pushes work. As you might expect, the stupidity of his comments were bang up there with "We only promote guys from NXT when we have a plan in place," for how factually untrue they were.

Said Triple H: "I think fans or people who watch we do, they think it’s a matter of, ‘This guy is there so why don’t they do something with him?’ It’s a more complex process than that and a lot goes into it."

Nothing about the Jinder Mahal push is complex. He didn't embark on a storied undefeated streak, rising through the ranks in order to condition fans to take him seriously. There was no forethought to any of this. In the span of eight days, between April 3 and April 11, Mahal stared at the lights for Sami Zayn, Finn Bálor and Mojo Rawley. None of those matches went longer than three minutes. Plucking a jobber from undercard obscurity and positioning them as a headliner out of thin air is so easy that it hardly ever happens. That's because it's stupid and makes zero sense even in a promotion which barely makes the effort to emulate sport.

It's not as if Trips could reveal the real (and honestly, fairly astute) reason behind Mahal's push - that WWE is wary of Impact Wrestling's flirtation with the emerging, lucrative Indian market - but taking a swipe at his fanbase and making himself look like a t*t wasn't the ideal way to spin it. He could have reinforced the idea the SmackDown is the land of opportunity, or something. He could have mentioned that upsets happen in sports all the time.

But no. He had to remonstrate with fans who saw through the completely transparent direction.
