7 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (March 10)

WWE Stupidity: Then. Now. Forever.

Sunday's ironically-named WWE Fastlane was one of the most bizarre WWE pay-per-views in recent memory.

The main event more resembled a filler RAW match, capped off as it was with one of the company's most asinine non-finishes. Think about the implications of the old "I'll play my entrance music when you're not expecting it, buddy!" gag. In order for it to actually happen, a wrestler would need to barge into the technical area and display a vague competency at operating what, presumably, is complex audio equipment. If they're all able to cue up their entrance music, why bother hiring production staff in the first place? Wouldn't it make more sense to use that money on security guards, to ensure that important main event matches go off without a hitch? How absolutely stupid must a wrestler be to fall for the ruse, time and time again?

The preposterousness was not limited to the main event. After a listless impromptu match, The Big Show chokeslammed Rusev three times before draping him in the corner. It seemed like a set-up for some contrivance or other - when has he ever delivered the move like that before? - but no. He just delivered his KO punch to a man who was already knocked out. He was sat on his a*rse. It didn't even knock him down.

On a week in which Daniel Bryan is set to name his daughter Birdy (!) developments inside the ropes have still largely eclipsed the insanity elsewhere...

7. Charlotte Is 16-1...

...and her first loss didn't take place at WrestleMania.

All things considered, the state of the RAW Women's division is an absolute disgrace. Nia Jax has spent aeons squashing jobbers in filler segments on RAW, but as has been made abundantly clear, she is not ready for a feature match at the biggest show of the year. Her involvement at WrestleMania has been sh*tcanned, wasting a good half year in the process. Another experiment, Emmalina, died a death in rehearsals. Much like Jax herself, Dana Brooke was promoted to the main roster prematurely.

Even the stars with talent and an established bond with fans have struggled. Sasha Banks was a bust in the face role; disingenuous, manufactured. She was replaced by Bayley in the title picture by early 2017, possibly the most genuinely likeable and natural babyface in the entire company. The RAW creative team has contrived to render her unlikeable. In the storyline, she is an undeserving champion, one who practically revels in her cheating with cloying, immature glee. Is Of Mice And Men's Lenny scripting RAW? The approach is so heavy-handed. Bayley was once appealing to a child. She now is a child. At this rate, if the company does end up hiring Kenny "The Cleaner" Omega in 2018, he'll be repackaged as the Fake Duke Droese.

Only Charlotte, with the intriguing hook of her pay-per-view winning streak, has flourished - and WWE still managed to p*ss that away by ending it at Fastlane. There are now zero stakes to the upcoming Triple Threat match at 'Mania, bar what is now a massively devalued title. Everybody loses it at some point or another, even Charlotte on pay-per-view.

So who cares?
