7 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (May 12)
5. Bring Casual Abuse To The Table
This week's episode of "Bring It To The Table" made an implicit reference to the Mauro Ranallo scandal, because of course it did.
"I'm Peter Rosenberg," Peter Rosenberg began, "and there has been some controversy surrounding my comments about Roman Reigns."
"I'm Corey Graves, and there has been controversy regarding my comments about Shane McMahon," Corey Graves followed up.
"And I'm John Bradshaw Layfield," JBL chimed in, looking around furtively, taking an age to splutter out the following zinger: "And I won $21 last week playing golf." This was apparently so funny that Rosenberg had to button his mouth before smugly welcoming us all to the show. Irrespective of the poor taste in which this skit was performed - Ranallo, a man plagued by mental health issues, was allegedly bullied out of WWE - the terms of his departure disallowed WWE from commenting on it publicly. Of course, no actual comment was made. That's how they got away with it. But still - arrogantly flirting with this line just reinforces the perception of WWE as the villain in this story.
The joke, really, is on WWE - and particularly on Rosenberg. WWE cancelled Legends With JBL, as cheap as the shots fired towards Ranallo to produce, because it wasn't worth the bandwidth. It's not hard not to deduce that people had no interest in watching him. If the same fate awaits Bring It To The Table, Peter Rosenberg risks decimating the Cheap Heat brand at the mercy of briefly joining the big boy's table.
On this week's evidence, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
