7. He Hated WWF System After 1987 Incident With His Father
Story: In 1987, Randy Savage was riding high as the 'Macho Man'. Given that he was one of the bigger stars on the roster, Savage felt that he had some sway behind the scenes. Officials had mentioned to him that they were running a Battle Royal on an upcoming house show, one which would feature top names from years gone by. After discussing this fact with Angelo Poffo, Savage was excited when he learned his father would be interested in working the bout. Randy would be on the same show, and he dearly wanted to give Angelo one last big hurrah with his buddies in the ring. Broaching the subject with WWE officials, Savage was angered by their negative response. Poffo didn't work the Battle Royal, and Randy held a grudge against the company from that day on. Why People Believe It: This is something that's been mentioned by several sources. Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, has made mention of it on numerous occasions. The idea of heat between Randy Savage and the WWF had also been reported in many different articles and books, including the exceptionally well-researched Titan Sinking. Should We Believe It: Yes, there's a good chance that this one has some truth to it. Randy was fiercely loyal to his father, so he was likely upset that the WWF wouldn't even allow this simple little gesture towards his family. There would be no reason to exclude Angelo, because the match was happening on a non-televised live event anyway. Randy likely just took it as a slight against his father and his family.
