7 Most Surprising WWE PPV Main Eventers Ever
5. Spirit Squad - Vengeance 2006
Vengeance 2006 was a superior Raw brand pay-per-view with a pretty stacked card. Randy Orton versus Kurt Angle, Ric Flair versus Mick Foley in a 2/3 Falls match, Rob Van Dam versus Edge for the WWE Title. Hell, it even had the inherently weird yet compelling Sabu versus John Cena Lumberjack match!
Yet somehow the Spirit Squad ended up closing the show. So what gives? Well, the male cheerleaders had been heavily involved in Vince and Shane McMahon's feud with Shawn Michaels, interfering on behalf of the boss and doing their best to beat down The Showstopper.
They'd also been in the mix with Triple H, taking him on in handicap and gauntlet matches. Figuring they'd lessen the numbers disadvantage, Shawn and Hunter joined forces, reforming DX. Thirteen days after reuniting, the duo took on the Spirit Squad in a 5-on-2 handicap match at Vengeance.
Since this was the first DX match since 1998, it had to go on last. As a match, it was nothing special, since nobody bought Nicky, Kenny, Johnny, Mikey and Mitch as credible threats. I mean, they were jokes, just fodder for the degenerates to run over, which they did, rather easily.
Adding insult to injury, HBK forcibly inducted Mitch into the 'Triple H Kiss My A** Club' afterwards. How appropriate.
