6. Bringing Flair To WWF

WWF scored a huge coup in 1991 when they brought Ric Flair in from WCW, along with the NWA World Heavyweight Championship belt.

But simply bringing in a competing promotion’s top star wasn’t enough in this case. So WWF built up Flair’s impending arrival with Bobby Heenan trumpeting the moment on TV repeatedly. He displayed the Big Gold Belt on WWF television – an unheard of transgression at the time – and sang Flair’s praises.

Heenan was an excellent hype man and manager for Flair, but he was in rare form on Prime Time Wrestling when he brought the Nature Boy to the WWF. The Brain paced through the backstage area, dressing down workers as he anxiously awaited Flair’s debut.
