That should be that for Randy Orton's association with WWE Title feuds for the rest of the summer. With the return of John Cena, rise of Baron Corbin, and tantalising matches like AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura on the horizon, there's no need for Orton to crowd the headline pack any longer.

A move down the card wouldn't do Randy any harm right now either. He's the kind of character immune to being relegated; a slide down the totem pole doesn't represent a lack of faith from WWE in Orton, it simply makes sense right now if others are going to shine.

How about positioning Orton against Kevin Owens for the United States Title, or even booking him to temporarily poke his nose into the Styles vs. Nakamura fun? That match would be better placed at SummerSlam than Battleground anyway, so WWE have time on their side to make the dream match come true.

Whatever the case, Randy needs something to do outside the WWE Title scene.
