7 Reasons Asuka Should Be Moving To WWE SmackDown Live

4. Carmella And The Briefcase

SmackDown Live’s women’s division is in limbo right now. Natalya defeated Naomi for the Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, the 'Queen of Harts’ first championship win in almost seven years. It was a wonderful moment for Natalya, but it really does feel as though it is going to be little more than a transitional reign.

All the while, 'The Princess of Staten Island' waits patiently in the background with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Natalya’s championship win seems designed for Carmella to eventually cash-in the briefcase, ending the emotional reign and giving Carmella her first championship in the company.

That may still happen, but there is an interesting story to tell with Asuka and the briefcase. If Asuka were to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship before Carmella cashes in, watching the Princess try to decide whether or not to cash-in on Asuka and risk angering her would be fantastic television.

The briefcase usually makes the holder the hunter and the champion the hunted. Asuka transcends that trope, and adding her into this story could breathe new life into the briefcase concept.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
