And just like that, it is over. Dean Ambrose held the WWE World Championship for 84 days before being dethroned at WWE Backlash by AJ Styles. In truth, this came as little surprise. AJ Styles has arguably been WWE's top performer in 2016 and The Phenomenal One already represents a fresh face on top of the SmackDown mountain.

As the smoke clears on last night's events and the wrestling world rejoices in the success of one of its most respected performers, it is back to the drawing board for Dean Ambrose. The Lunatic Fringe was positioned as the third ranked ex-member of The Shield despite being far away the most popular, and many were beginning to doubt WWE's willingness to pull the trigger.

Pull the trigger they did, as we witness at Money in the Bank back in July. Ambrose was champion, the number one guy in the company heading into the WWE Draft. 84 days later his reign is over, and his reign can only really be described as disappointing. Even the most ardent of Ambrose supporters will have to agree with that.

So where did it go wrong for The Lunatic Fringe? Here are seven reasons Dean Ambrose failed as WWE World Champion...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
