7 Reasons Dean Ambrose Failed As WWE World Champion
7. The Booking Of The Previous Two Years
When The Shield split in 2014, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were immediately presented as big time WWE stars. Rollins feuded with Dean Ambrose, and throughout Ambrose was presented as a wounded dog, obsessed with the memory of The Shield. It immediately made it seem as though he needed The Shield more than Reigns or Rollins did.
Rollins and Reigns were headliners from the off, working at the top of the card and winning matches more often than they lost them. A cursory glance at the feuds of both men will give you an idea of their position on the card.
After his beef with Ambrose ended, Rollins moved into a feud with John Cena and subsequently Randy Orton before winning the WWE World Championship at WrestleMania.
Reigns feuded with Orton and Big Show before winning the Royal Rumble headlining WrestleMania 31. Ambrose? He moved into a feud with Bray Wyatt after coming up short against Rollins, and subsequently feuded with Bad News Barrett, Luke Harper and Kevin Owens.
Ambrose lost his fair share of matches during that time, meaning he began to feel like a utility main event talent as opposed to a true top guy. The audience therefore failed to truly accept it when he became that guy, at least in theory.
