7 Reasons Eva Marie Should Be WWE SmackDown's First Women's Champion
5. Crossover Appeal
If there’s one thing WWE is always desperate for it is superstars with crossover appeal. Vince and his cohorts love anytime one of their talents makes it into mainstream media for anything remotely positive. It’s one of the reasons that make their decision not to push Darren Young so puzzling after he “spontaneously” chose TMZ to come out to. Pro wrestling companies love crossover appeal.
Take a look at Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey. Both are fighters who managed to use their aura and personalities to transcend the sport of mixed martial arts and are now constant fixtures of millennial media and the blogosphere. That’s what WWE needs, and they have a chance for that with Eva Marie.
Unlike Rousey and McGregor it won’t be because of a mixture of athletic prowess and innate charisma, but in the case of Eva she’s more akin to a Kardashian or one of those snapchat/Instagram celebrities. She’s easily the least accomplished female wrestler on the roster yet a central figure of the Total Divas cast, and that’s because she has star power, and you can’t teach that.
