6. Fresh New Matches, And Some Old Favourites

WWE has changed a lot since CM Punk left.

Although only three years have passed since his ill-timed firing, the landscape of Titan Tower has morphed into a very different beast. With Triple H attempting to usher in a new generation of global superstars, fast-paced, independent-style wrestling – the very style CM Punk helped to popularise – is now the ‘in thing’ within WWE.

The old guard Punk faced throughout his original WWE tenure are now either retired, fired or are being phased out, leaving room for a whole new set of matches, and a slew of bouts that set the indies on fire over a decade ago. Who doesn’t want to see old favourites like AJ Styles vs CM Punk, Samoa Joe vs CM Punk or Austin Aries Vs. CM Punk?

What about dream matches that never came to be, like CM Punk vs Finn Bálor, or CM Punk vs Shinsuke Nakamura? There’s big money to be made in setting up these contests, and Punk’s name value alone would bring in hardcore and casual fans alike.
