7 Reasons The WWE Universal Championship Is A Horrific Idea

2. Promotes Staleness

The WWE Universal Championship may, one day, prove to be the most prestigious in the sport but, in the short-term, it will promote a staleness that will be tough to overcome.

Even if Raw finds a way to develop Owens, Cesaro, Zayn and the like into believable headliners, there are only so many times the same competitors can fight for one title before it becomes repetitive. The wealth of opportunities that await the youthful SmackDown roster is one of that brand's bright spots. Raw does not have that. So many of the superstars on Monday nights, including Reigns and Rollins, have been overexposed in recent times.

Thus, creating a heavyweight title for everyone to vie for rather than changing up the script and allowing a midcard title such as the U.S. title to take precedence, the possibility that Raw falls into the dark abyss of sameness that the brand extension was designed to eliminate is higher.
