There are some that will look at superstars such as Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Cesaro as credible contenders to the brand new WWE Universal Championship but those fans would be sadly mistaken.

Those guys are among the best wrestlers on the planet but, unfortunately, their booking has been so wildly inconsistent that it is difficult to convince fans that they are capable of unseating someone like Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns, whose pushes have been far more consistent over the past two years.

Even Finn Balor, who will challenge Rollins for the title in one of the SummerSlam main events on August 21, is an unproven commodity on the main roster. Will fans be as open to supporting him, especially if he does not leave Brooklyn with the gold?

Unproven commodities and a lack of main event credibility among them will make it that much more difficult to establish the title as one of the tops in the industry.

Especially when most of the top contenders could not unseat The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship just two months earlier.
